I sense trouble brewing and sparks flying between neighbours that have seen many border disputes and war zones. Cambodia would benefit from Thaksin's advice and wealth. The wily Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen seem all prepared to disregard ASEAN amity and cooperation. What could Thailand do with Cambodia bent on defying and frustrating its larger neighbour except to play up nationalist feelings?

Thailand recalled its ambassador to Phnom Penh yesterday to protest against the appointment of convicted ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra as economic adviser to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and his government.

At the same time, the government said it wanted to review all bilateral agreements and commitments signed between Thailand and Cambodia by both current and previous administrations.

What do you know? The Thai PM's popularity soars 3 times for downgrading ties. In comparison to 23.3 per cent in the survey in September, Abhisit's popularity leaped to 68.6 per cent. People are gaming for a good fight to divert their attention from the ailing economy. Ask them whether war would boost the economy?

National pride always stand in the way of peace among mankind. History will repeat itself no matter or for whatever reasons to go to war. Why can't the Thais and the Khymers live and let live. If Thaksin can help develop Cambodia, so much the better.....Indochina will be prosperous and peace can return.

Some arm dealers, Russians or Yanks or Europeans, are hoping for a fight. There is money to be made by these bastards.

Small neighbour Cambodia harbouring deposed Thai PM Thaksin has become bigger threat, more like a dagger than a the thorn in the flesh.

Quote:
Hun Sen said he had seen a secret Thai government document outlining the plan to mount a coup, which he said he had passed to Cambodia's King Norodom Sihamoni to show the "bad character of our neighbouring leaders".

"In your secret document it says that although the (Thai) foreign ministry does not agree to stage a coup in Cambodia... others are working on it," Hun Sen said.

The Cambodian premier said he had also seen documents that showed Thailand has considered waging war against its neighbour.

"You have outlined bad scenarios, including preparing to wage war against Cambodia," he said.

Hun Sen's comments follow the leaking of a document in Thailand last week, written by the Thai foreign minister to premier Abhisit Vejjajiva, in which the worsening relations between the two countries are analysed.

Relations between the countries, which have fought a string of deadly gunbattles on their border since last year, plunged last month when fugitive former Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra became an economic adviser to Cambodia.

Both recalled their ambassadors in November and diplomatic tensions were further raised when Phnom Penh refused to extradite Thaksin during his first visit as adviser last month.

Hun Sen is a brilliant strategist and survival. At a very young age, he emerged undented from the internal struggles in the Khmer Rouge, manipulated and won the trust of Vietnamese invaders / occupiers to become the strongman of Cambodia until today. His eloquence and wit have impressed upon other world leaders.

Thailand should be wary of Hun Sen who is cunning and tough. Is it possible that Khmer agents have infiltrated the Thai government to obtain secret documents? A Thailand split between pro-Thaksin / provincial and pro-Abhisit Bangkok supporters could well provide good opportunities for foreigners to sow discord and gain the upperhand. Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva may be Oxford educated but is no match for Hun Sen, a seasoned political animal.

Quote:
Feared and revered. Plain living and chain smoking. A chess enthusiast with a sharp and cunning mind.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen is described as a canny, populist politician but also one with a volcanic temper and little patience for views that contradict his own.

Smalltok : Khmers and Thais have been at loggerheads for hundreds of years and had fought over the border demarcation such as the claim over an inconspicuous Preah Vihear Temple.

Burma used to be Thailand's during ancient times. However, it appears now that Thailand should be more worried about Cambodia threatening to create a tsunami at its doorstep.
